We will be hosting the next in our series of ‘In the City’ debates at The Society Building, London, on 3 December 2024 and will be discussing ‘Gathering in the City: The spaces that help us come together’.
We are wired to be social; we crave connection, thrive on forming relationships and the pandemic made us realise just how much we need social interaction. Perhaps more traditionally taking place in, for example, cafés, parks and libraries, we are now seeing a growing number of social spaces located within other types of buildings. In offices, universities and schools, in our cultural institutions, places of worship and even in residential buildings, there is a growing desire to create loose fit spaces where occupants can gather informally and do more-or-less whatever they want, for free! These spaces are often expensive to fit out and do not generate a rentable income so why are we seeing an increasing number of these ‘Third Spaces’ appear within buildings across London?
To address this question, and no doubt many more, we have brought together an amazing panel including, developers, community leaders, placemakers and hospitality experts.
Sarah Cary, White City Development Director – Imperial College London
Fr Enehizena Moses, Parish Priest – St Mellitus
Auro Foxcroft, Director – Village Underground and EartH
Samuel Lawson Johnston, Co-founder – Kinrise
And
Lydia Lee, Assistant Director, Culture and Regeneration – Bromley Council
Laurence Pinnfire, Director here at Tate + Co, will chair the debate.
There will also be plenty of opportunity to catch up over drinks before and after the panel discussion.
The event is free to attend and you can book your place via Eventbrite.
We do hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be an evening of lively conversation and debate.
