We will be hosting the next in our series of ‘In the City’ debates at The Building Society, London, on Tuesday 1 October 2024.
To kick off our Autumn / Winter programme, we will be discussing Culture in the City.
Culture gives a city and its communities a sense of place, character and identity. The spaces that support culture are a key part of developing social infrastructure, helping people to connect with one another and their wider shared history. London has a global reputation for outstanding cultural institutions but these tend to be centred around established areas. What happens when we create new neighbourhoods? How can we ensure that these burgeoning communities also benefit from their own, meaningful spaces and creative organisations?
We have an amazing panel who will explore these questions and more.
Olu Alake – CEO, The Africa Centre
Stephen Feber – Museum Director, Londoner and founder of cultural institutions within regeneration strategies
Stella Ioannou – Artistic Director, Sculpture in the City and Founding Director, Lacuna
Katherine McAlpine – Director, The Brunel Museum
Nick Searl – Executive Director, Related Argent
Manijeh Verghese – Director, Sphere Spaces and Incoming CEO, Open City
Jerry Tate, founder and director of Tate+Co, will chair.
There will be plenty of opportunity to catch up over drinks before and after the panel discussion.
The event is free to attend and you can book your place here.
