Tate+Co has received planning permission for a transformational project at  Seckford Hall Hotel and Spa. The new proposals will see huge improvements to the existing historic house, as well as a series of new buildings to improve visitor well-being.

Seckford Hall Hotel is a Country House Hotel set in one of the most iconic, historic houses in Suffolk. It was originally built for Thomas Seckford in 1553 and the house and gardens are Grade II* Listed. The property was acquired in 2018 and Tate+Co has been working with the new owners since 2021 to create a contemporary, 21st Century country house experience.

We produced a comprehensive masterplan for the site which set out a new and holisitic vision for the hotel based on health and well-being with a combination of active leisure and space facilities combined with country pursuits, as well as specific development opportunities in the unique grounds. These projects include additional bedroom accommodation (both in the main house and a new building); further additional rooms through proposed tree house accommodation; a glazed extension to create additional restaurant; and a new spa area to provide treatments and relaxation. Smaller interventions, threaded throughout the historic gardens and landscape, will further enhance the guest experience.

The first phase of the masterplan was completed in 2022, creating five additional hotel rooms in the East Wing of the main listed building. The new planning and listed building consent will allow for a new 27 ‘key’ accommodation building, seven new guest room tree house lodges, and the new glazed restaurant pavilion. The owners intend to complete the ambitious masterplan in phases over the next few years.

Hannah Pinsent, Project Architect at Tate+Co said: “Seckford Hall is steeped in history and it is a huge privilege to have been given the opportunity to be part of its future. Respectful of the magnificent Tudor architecture, our designs seek to extend and enhance the building within the context of its original design, landscaped gardens and rural surroundings.”

Tammy Madge,  joint owner of Seckford Hall Hotel and Spa, said: “We know how unique Seckford Hall is, and this development will allow us to create a completely modern guest experience that allows guests to unwind, refresh and connect with the incredible heritage of the Suffolk landscape.”
