Tate+Co has been appointed to design and build a new Music & Performance Centre for Truro School, Cornwall’s leading co-educational independent school for pupils aged 3-18.
The current music centre at Truro School is one of the biggest and busiest music departments in the South West of England and music is an integral, inclusive and highly valued part of the School’s culture. The school’s ambitious plan will create a new building to house the music department and refurbish the existing adjacent Assembly Hall to provide an improved performance venue to meet the school’s needs.
The new Centre will accommodate an exemplary array of high-quality facilities to serve their students and the local community, widening access to music making and musical experiences for the community beyond the School. The new Music & Performance Centre will host a range of concerts, individual instrumental or vocal lessons, student events and teaching classrooms all within flexible working spaces to optimise the facilities or events that can be held there.
Tate+Co has a deep understanding of delivering exceptional teaching spaces at educational institutions such as Cranleigh School and York St John University. They also have experience delivering high quality buildings in Cornwall for key, local organisations such as the Eden Project and Watergate Bay Hotel.
