We are proud to have been recognised for our continued commitment to regenerative design and feature in the inaugural Regenerative Architecture Index (RAI).

Launched by Architecture Today and UK Architects Declare, the RAI recognises the need for a built environment that isn’t just reducing its negative impacts but also introducing positive impacts. The RAI seeks to benchmark the efforts of architectural practices dedicated to regenerative design principles, celebrating those who integrate sustainable, circular and nature-positive approaches within their work.

The RAI explored three key criteria that illustrate regenerative solutions for local and planetary well-being:

  • Being a good ancestor
Promoting a shift in practice mindset to consider truly, long-term thinking.
  • Co-evolving with nature
Recognising that we are part of nature and not separate from it.
  • Creating a just space for people
Providing social connection, economic opportunity and well-being for all.

The Index highlights the need for practices to go beyond sustainability and push towards regenerative systems and our proven approach was applauded in all three categories. The assessors commended our project The Creative Centre at York St John University for its ‘clear span structure with modular servicing; a strategy that has allowed it to set out multiple future scenarios.’

Aside from celebrating the pioneering role and responsibility of the architect, the Index seeks to encourage the profession and wider built environment to adopt more comprehensive regenerative methodologies.
