Location: Cornwall, UK
Client: Eco-Bos
Project Team: LHC, Buro Happold
Timescale: Under construction, completion by 2030
Size: 200 Hectares, 1,500 New Homes
We worked alongside four other architects to create housing designs for this new Eco-Town development in St Austell, Cornwall. Developed by the Eco-Bos consortium, the scheme was one of only four projects chosen by the government in 2009 to receive confirmed funding. When complete the scheme will contain 1,500 new homes as well as community and business facilities, integrated into a 140 hectare country park based around five lakes.
Tate+Co have developed both a three bed terraced house type, and a four bed detached house type for inclusion into the masterplan which is being led by LHC architects. These designs will demonstrate how innovative construction and sustainable techniques can be integrated with the local Cornish vernacular to provide homes that the new community will love.
It was great working with the Tate+Co team on the Garden Village concept designs, they really understood how to combine the Cornish vernacular with 21st Century sustainable housing requirements.”
